Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP)

What Is "Christ Renews His Parish"?

CHRIST RENEWS HIS PARISH is a process to bring members of a parish together in Christ. All of our commitments, including our commitment to Christ, need continued renewal if we are to be faithful. Christ Renews His Parish is an effective spiritual renewal process which calls together members of the parish in order to experience personal conversion and Christian community in the environment of our own parish.

Who Facilitates The Weekend?

The renewal weekends are given for PARISHIONERS by a team that has previously attended a Christ Renews His Parish weekend. They work together in prayer and love to provide you with a two day, one overnight, live-in experience.

What Happens On A Weekend?

Most who have participated in the weekend experience say "you can't explain it - you have to experience it to understand it!" What we can explain is: the weekend includes talks, prayers, music, food and activities centered around your relationship with Christ and each other. You may expect an opportunity to respond to Christ's call to a closer and deeper relationship with Him, in a relaxed atmosphere

Come prepared to have fun and renew your heart. The process is centered around reflections by team members with emphasis on small group discussions and activities. You will be free to share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. You and your needs will always be respected. The sharing dialogue is stimulated in a very liturgical, scriptural, and prayerful atmosphere. Sacraments are part of the weekend. Mass is celebrated on Sunday in a chapel. Reconciliation is offered with our pastor

Can I Afford This Weekend?

YES! The renewal weekend is a gift from the presenting team and the parish. There is no cost to you.

Will I Have To Get Up And Talk In Front Of People?

No one is required to get up and speak. You may have the opportunity to share your experiences, but you are not required to.

What About The Next Christ Renews His Parish Weekend?

Christ Renews His Parish is unique in its continuation. Participants have the opportunity to begin planning the next men's or women's weekends soon after they complete their own. You may attend the renewal weekend with no further commitment; however, many of the participants become the new team. The new team members continue the renewal process by presenting the next weekend to a new group of parishioners. Participants are usually so inspired and moved, so renewed and uplifted, that they are anxious to share their faith and their experience with others in the Parish family.. They become the new team. During this formation time even greater spiritual growth occurs. This weekend is an opportunity to begin or enhance your relationship with Christ and to grow more in love with your brothers and sisters at St. Pius X.

Where Is The Weekend To Be Held?

The weekend is held in our Parish from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon.
Meals will be prepared by volunteer parishioners. Sleeping information will become available as soon as possible. The entire weekend is informal. Casual and comfortable is the "rule". Every effort will be made to accommodate any special needs.

Who May Attend?

The weekend is open to all parishioners who are at least 18 years of age.

Christ Renews His Parish is for anyone seeking spiritual renewal, desiring to build up the Body of Christ or gain a deeper sense of purpose within the parish community. Praying for guidance is important. If you feel that Christ, through the Holy Spirit, is calling you...COME!

Now a little bit of history...

"CRHP" began as a "renewal" weekend at Holy Family Parish in Cleveland in 1969. The members at Holy Family found the enthusiasm and positive response to this initial weekend overwhelming. The program exposed participants to the effectiveness of shared ministry and motivated them to build a Christian community that understood that Jesus Christ was its center. Now, some 30 years later, Holy Family has celebrated its 80th "renewal" weekend and over 3000 men and women from their parish have participated.

During the 1970's, news of "CRHP's" success at Holy Family motivated other parishes throughout the Cleveland Diocese to adopt the program. Through the 1980's and 90's "CRHP" spread to 750 parishes in 62 dioceses across 27 states and received the recommendation of the renewal office of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Today, "CRHP" continues to promote the development of vibrant faith communities and full service parishes by transforming the hearts of committed believers. "Christ Renews His Parish" is an effective spiritual renewal process, which calls together the members of the parish-priests, religious, and laity-in order to experience personal conversion and Christian community in the environment of their own parish. The secret of the "what" is its simplicity.

The program is based on the basic Christian principles of evangelization, reconciliation, catechesis, initiation, formation, community, and personal vocation. What makes "CRHP" different from some other "renewal" programs is that those who participate in a weekend continue to meet and grow as a spiritual community and eventually share what they have experienced with others.

As the program manual states: "However sincere and deep our initial commitment to our faith, it requires by its very nature, continuous renewal and deepening. It must be a moment-to-moment process of saying, "yes" to God."  Over 250 members have attended CRHP weekends at St. Pius X Parish. "CRHP" is a response to the need that every follower of Christ has to experience "church" and to experience "being church" and finally, to experience "being church for others".
